About us

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
(Matthew 5:6)
Many years ago, Tom and Betty Burke moved from their home town, Dublin, to London and took on the running of a shop which was part of a chain of newsagents, and it was at this time that they gave their lives to Jesus Christ and were born again.
They subsequently found their own business in Leyton, a small confectionery and tobacconist shop, and just as Jesus fed the 5000 (John 6:1-13) with a little boy's lunch, they gave Jesus their lives and all their talents, knowing that He could use them to feed many. However, after a couple of years, knowing that the Lord was not happy about them selling tobacco, they ceased to stock it and things began to look black financially.
But God had a plan. The owner of a nearby Christian Bookshop had to move away and had been praying for someone to replace what he had started in the area. He was given Tom and Betty's address and he asked them to pray about becoming a Christian Bookshop. To Betty, this was heaven, because she loved reading and was so hungry for God that she could almost read a book a day! 21 years later, they employ full-time people in a very busy and well-stocked shop.
Good News is far more than just a bookshop; it is a place where the love and healing power of Christ are shared with people. Many have given their lives to Jesus, as well as many healed and delivered from depression. What a faithful and loving God; He took and spread their offering, so that more people than they could ever have imagined have been fed!
John 6:1-13
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
1Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick. 3Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4The Jewish Passover Feast was near. 5When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
